Maple - Hard Maple

1

Hard maple is fast growing and majestic. Versatile species that suits almost every project.

It dries slowly with high shrinkage, so it can be susceptible to movement in performance. Pre-boring is recommended when nailing and screwing. With care it machines well, turns well, glues satisfactorily, and can be stained to an outstanding finish. Polishes well and is suitable for enamel finishes and brown tones.

  • Colour: Sapwood is ivory white with a slight reddish-brown tinge. Heartwood is greyish brown to dark tan.

  • Texture: Close grain, uniform, polishes well.

  • Physical Properties: Heavy, strong, stiff. Resists shock and marring.

  • Applications: Furniture, flooring, millwork, sporting goods, dowels, turnings, interior joinery, paneling, ballroom and gymnasium floors, kitchen cabinets, worktops, table tops, butchers blocks, toys, kitchenware and millwork: stairs, handrails, mouldings, and doors. Generally available in 4/4 through 8/4 thickness.

  • Janka Hardness Rating: 1450
