This western Canadian interior species produces grades ranging from reddish brown to yellowish in colour. It exhibits a high degree of hardness, and good resistance to decay.
Spruce-Pine-Fir (SPF): This group of western Canadian interior species includes Engelmann spruce, white spruce, hybrid white spruce, lodgepole pine, and subalpine fir. The colouring of this group ranges from white to pale yellow. These grades are light in weight, work easily, take paint well, hold nails well, and exhibit small knots.
