Birch is easy to work with, from staining, to painting and finshing.
- Colour: Sapwood is a creamy white to light yellow. Heartwood is reddish brown.
- Texture: Close grain, uniform, similar grain pattern as hard maple, although 25% softer.
- Applications: Furniture, flooring, mouldings, millwork, cabinetry, dowels, turnings. A favoured wood for use with lighter-coloured species. Generally available 4/4 and 5/4 thickness, limited availability in 6/4.
