Ash has a pronounced open-grain pattern similar to oak.
White Ash can be stained to resemble oak.
It machines well, is good in nailing, screwing and gluing, and can be stained to a very good finish. It dries fairly easily with minimal degrade, and there is little movement in performance.
- Colour: Sapwood is light creamy white. Heartwood is light to dark brown.
- Texture: Open grain pattern, ring porous and coarse-textured.
- Physical Properties: Strong, heavy, hard, high in shock-resistance.
- Applications: Furniture, flooring, tool handles, mouldings, millwork, sporting goods, architectural millwork and moulding, kitchen cabinets, paneling, tool handles, baseball bats, hockey sticks, billiard cues, skis, oars and turnings. Typically available in thickness from 4/4 through 12/4.
